In Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, you play as the Luminary, this chosen hero dude who’s got a destiny to save the world from some dark forces. But, plot twist, everyone thinks you’re the bad guy because of some ancient prophecy. So, you’re out here trying to clear your name, recruit a squad of quirky characters (like a sassy thief, a shy mage, and a literal king who’s also a party animal), and stop the big bad evil, the Lord of Shadows.

 Know what?, I’m not gonna write an analysis this time. Why? ‘Cause, like… what’s the point, you know? It’s Japan-only, and unless you’re out here fluent in Japanese or down to Google Translate your way through every dialogue box, you’re not gonna get the full experience. I could talk about how cool the dual-screen stuff is or how the retro 2D mode hits you right in the nostalgia feels, but… eh. It’s like telling you about this amazing pizza place that only delivers to a different continent. Cool story, but you’re still hungry.

But, here’s a little nugget of hope: there’s actually an English fan patch in development. Yeah, some absolute legend out there is working on translating the whole thing. But, and this is important, it’s currently on hold. So, let’s cheer the guy on for even attempting this Herculean task, but don’t be that person bombarding him with «When’s it gonna be done?» Let him cook. These things take time, and we’re lucky someone’s even trying. For now, just chill, enjoy what’s out there, and keep the faith.

So yeah, I’m just gonna vibe out and say: if you’re curious about DRAGON QUEST XI, grab the Switch, PS4, or PC version. It’s the same great game, but in a language you can actually read. Still, if ya wanna check this out, then go ahead.
