Miitopia

Miitopia is a weird but charming RPG that doesn’t take itself too seriously but somehow ends up being ridiculously addictive. The game throws you into a fantasy world where the Dark Lord (who’s totally extra) has stolen everyone’s faces and slapped them onto monsters. Your job? Assemble a squad of Miis, custom or ripped from your Nintendo friends list, and go on a quest to save the day. The twist? The game’s packed with quirky, almost sitcom-like interactions between your party members, thanks to its relationship system. Friendships grow, drama unfolds, and sometimes your warrior and chef will randomly start a feud over who gets the last sandwich. It’s absurd, but in the best way possible.

The gameplay’s your classic turn-based RPG but with a casual twist. You control your main Mii directly, but the rest of your party runs on AI, making choices based on their personality traits. This leads to hilarious moments, like your cautious mage refusing to attack because they’re too scared, or your laid-back cleric straight-up napping mid-battle. The job system is cool too, letting you switch classes (from warriors to pop stars to literal tanks) to mix up combat. It’s not super deep, but the charm is in the unpredictability, like watching your team’s dynamics evolve or seeing your edgiest Mii bond with a cheerful cat.

Visually, Miitopia is colorful and simple, leaning hard into its Mii aesthetic. It’s not gonna win awards for graphics, but the expressiveness of the Miis adds so much personality. The soundtrack is catchy in that low-key Nintendo way, with battle tunes that get stuck in your head despite being super repetitive. The real star, though, is the writing, it’s packed with dumb, endearing humor that doesn’t overstay its welcome.

If there’s a downside, it’s a bit grindy, especially near the end. The AI-controlled party members mean you’re not always in full control, which might frustrate hardcore RPG fans. But if you’re here for a lighthearted, silly adventure with tons of customization and laughs, it’s a gem. It’s the kind of game where you don’t take the story seriously, but you’ll still get weirdly attached to your team of goofy Miis. Perfect for playing in short bursts or just vibing with the chaos.

Y'know the deal, boot up that FBI app or slam that download button, your 3DS is about to become a stage for the most delightfully unhinged Mii melodrama ever. One minute you’re customizing your hero, the next you’re watching your friend’s Mii dramatically sob into a bowl of spaghetti because the party tank stole their BFF necklace; this is Miitopia.
