Fossil Fighters: Champions
Fossil Fighters: Champions cranks up in all the right ways, like a sequel that actually listened to what players wanted. You can now pick a girl or guy at the start, choose between four starters instead of being stuck with a T-Rex copy and the whole vibe just feels more polished, better graphics, cleaner menus and way more vivosaurs. The battle system got a big glow up too, instead of that clunky escape zone shuffling from the first game, you've got a rotating formation where vivosaurs have short, mid or long range, so positioning actually matters and fights move way faster. They even made the cleaning robot from the first game copy your technique to autoclean basic fossils, plus weird new rock types like Giant and Curious fossils that shake up the grind. The story ain't as unhinged as the original's aliens plot, here you're competing in the Caliosteo Cup while a skeletal sorcerer possesses Joe Wildwest and tries to steal your body but it's still charming and has some genuine twists. The downsides? The soundtrack isn't as memorable and some reviews said it plays it too safe by not reinventing much but honestly, if you loved the first game's fossil cleaning and turn based brawls, Champions just gives you more of that with fewer rough edges. It's like DRAGON BALL Z to DRAGON BALL, same soul but flashier and stronger.

Fossil Fighters: Frontier
Fossil Fighters: Frontier is like the black sheep that tried to reinvent the wheel but ended up with a square. Right off the bat, the vibe is different, you’re a rookie warden driving a customizable bone buggy around open-ish Fossil Parks, which sounds cool until you realize you can't even walk on foot anymore. The story's follows the BR Brigade and a mysterious vivosaur named Nibbles who's secretly the Dreadsaurus but it lacks the crazy charm of the first game or the tournament swagger of Champions. The battle system got a massive overhaul and not in a good way: you only directly control one vivosaur, while two AI Paleo Pals handle the others and you just toss out buffs during a short window. Stances replace positioning, so you spin enemies around for bonus damage but the whole thing feels less strategic and more chaotic. They also swapped Earth and Air in the elemental cycle which makes some sense but messes with longtime fans’ muscle memory. As for cleaning fossils, you do it on the spot at dig sites but wild vivosaurs can attack you mid cleaning and make you fail, yeah, that’s as annoying as it sounds. Also, over half of the vivosaurs roster is just elemental clones with slightly different stats. Even the music, while nice, doesn’t save the grind or the brutal difficulty spikes near the end. This one tried to go bigger but stumbled hard and most fans agree: stick with Champions.
