Alien vs. Predator
Alien vs. Predator is one of those arcade legends that just hits different and it's wild to think it never got a proper home port back in the day. CAPCOM took the franchise and made pure unadulterated chaos, dropping you right into the middle of a Xenomorph infestation with two cyborg marines and a pair of Predators who decide to team up instead of turning you into a trophy.
The whole setup is classic '90s action flick stuff with the story kicking off in the fictional city of San Drad where our heroes are about to get swarmed until the Predators show up to save the day, leading to an unlikely alliance that eventually uncovers a bioweapon conspiracy cooked up by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and a rogue general. It's over the top and absolutely rules.

The gameplay is where this thing really shines and it's way deeper than an average quarter muncher. You got four characters to pick from, each with their own distinct vibe and playstyle that makes replaying the game feel totally fresh every time: Dutch Schaefer, the Arnold cyborg which's your slow but insanely powerful tank who can't even jump, replacing that with a dashing move and a powerbomb that just deletes enemies from existence, while Linn Kurosawa is the complete opposite with her lightning fast katana strikes and martial arts combos that makes me think she's where Ibuki from STREET FIGHTER came from.
Then you got the two Predators, the Warrior and the Hunter, who bring their own flavor with melee weapons and shoulder cannons, tho the Warrior is generally considered the more balanced pick while the Hunter has that sweet diving attack but suffers a bit on recovery time. What's cool is that every character has a permanent projectile weapon mapped to a button but you can't just spam it 'cuz there's an ammo meter that forces you to think about when to blast and when to get up close and personal, which adds a tactical layer you don't usually see in this genre.

The combat itself is just ridiculously satisfying, every punch, slash or explosion feels like it has genuine weight behind it, making you actually believe you're causing some serious damage to whatever poor alien or rogue soldier just crossed your path.
You can pick up all sorts of weapons dropped by enemies, from grenade launchers to flamethrowers, and the game just showers you with them so you're constantly switching things up, and Dutch has an unique quirk where he keeps melee weapons instead of tossing them like everyone else, which is a neat little touch.
The three button setup is dead simple to grasp with attack, jump and shoot but the depth comes from learning each character's specific combos and special moves, plus knowing when to use your screen clearing special attack that costs health but can save your bacon when you're totally surrounded. The enemy variety is pretty solid too with different Xenomorph types like the armored Chrysalis the blade fingered Razor Claws and those annoying acehuggers that just love to latch onto your head, plus human soldiers who actually shoot back at you, keeping you on your toes throughout the seven stage campaign.
But what really sets this game apart from other beat 'em ups is how much it leans into the licensed property while still delivering original content that feels true to both franchises, creating an alternate universe where Dutch teams up with Predators and it actually makes sense within the game's context. The story, while simple, has some heart and you can feel it, especially in some endings.
