Ever17 -the out of infinity-

Ever17 -the out of infinity-, on the surface, is a super cool sci-fi mystery game where you and other people get trapped in an underwater theme park called LeMU after a major leak. You've got like 119 hours before the water pressure crushes the whole place, which is a terrifying deadline. GojoShock You play as either a college student named Takeshi or an amnesiac boy simply called the kid, and depending on who you are you see the same events from a totally different angle. The whole premise is instantly gripping, that feeling of being isolated so far below the surface with no way out and it just nails the claustrophobic tense atmosphere right from the jump. Now, the game is famous for being a slow burn, and that's putting it mildly, the first few routes you play through are honestly drag at times. The characters are stuck in this life or death situation but they spend a surprising amount of time just chilling, eating tuna sandwiches, playing and having some long rambling conversations. Elijah_pomni_stare_unreliable It can feel like the pacing is totally off and a lot of that stuff feels like unnecessary filler, especially when you're just dying to figure out what's going on. Elijah_WHAT_unreliable It definitely takes a lot of patience to get through the first half of the game and I can get why some people just drop it. KirikoFacepalm

But here's the kicker: all that slow slice of life stuff is actually setting you up for one of the most mindblowing twists in VN history. honestreaction The game is meticulously designed to trick you and when you finally get to the true route everything just clicks into place in the most insane way. It's the kind of reveal that makes you want to immediately replay the whole game just to see all the clues you missed. It completely recontextualizes every single conversation and weird detail you brushed off before. floppashock This is the part of Ever17 that makes people call it a masterpiece and honestly, the payoff is so worth the slog. It's a classic example of a story that is elevated by the medium itself, using the player's perspective as a core part of the narrative and you just can't get this experience from a book or a movie. zero_smile

The characters are kinda a mixed bag. Tsugumi is the standout, a tsundere with an interesting backstory and her route is arguably the most emotionally impactful. 9s_gasp You and Sara are more fun and lighthearted, which is good for balancing the tension but they can also be pretty annoying at times, Takeshi is your typical hot blooded protagonist, while the kid is more introverted and mysterious and their dynamic is  interesting to watch develop. Sip The dialogue can feel a little dated with some cringey humor but the voice acting is top notch and really brings the cast to life. The relationship building can feel forced, especially because the romance just kind of happens but you still end up caring about everyone by the end. The soundtrack is another huge W for the game. Takeshi Abo (from the STEINS;GATE series and Emio The Smiling Man) is a genius and the music in Ever17 is fantastic, it perfectly captures that dreamy isolated underwater vibe and it really adds to the overall atmosphere. The ocean's pressing in, and you can feel that familiar weight again, can't you? The pressure's building, just like it always does when you're about to take that first step into LeMU's depths. That hum you're hearing isn't just the water, it's the countdown ticking away. Go ahead, grab the .RAR file, that's your first clue left behind for you to piece together. Extract everything and place both folders directly into the root of your SD card, the path needs to be clean. Once it's all in there, you've got one final step. Fire up the FBI app and install the .CIA forwarder. That's it, that's your doorway into the abyss. You ready to face what's waiting for you down there?
