Among Us

Among Us was our saving grace during quarantine. Y'know the deal, a group of Crewmates has to keep a spaceship running while secretly trying to figure out which of them are Impostors. Crewmates complete small tasks, watch other players, report bodies, call meetings and vote people out while Impostors fake tasks, sabotage systems, use vents and quietly pick off the crew. The genius is how little the actual mechanics need to do: most of the entertainment comes from watching people lie, panic, accuse the wrong person and suddenly realize their trusted buddy was murdering everyone 5 minutes ago. angel

What makes Among Us hold up is the information game happening underneath the goofy beans. The task phase is deliberately simple but your route, who you see, where everyone was standing and what they claim during meetings can become evidence later. The separation between roaming and meetings turns the latter into actual debates rather than frantic real time arguments while the basic mechanics combine into a surprisingly deep psychological metagame. At the same time, it really depends on the people you're playing with, you'll definitely have fun playing it with friends while random lobbies can bring trolls, awkward communication and a less enjoyable experience in general. bruh

As you already know, there's a semicomplete 3DS port built with Unity which was quickly discontinued, tho its creator left the source available. Surprisingly, as of this post, nobody's forked it yet so apparently we won't be getting updates anytime soon. noooo Everything is recognizable, collision works and sound effects are present, so it gets credit for trying to be immersive. The walking feels less fluid and responsive tho, butthe biggest issue is that it misses the part that makes Among Us… Among Us: the multiplayer and task systems. You can walk around The Skeld but it lacks the interaction with the environment, the social deduction, the multiplayer and the tasks that give you something actually fun to do, there isn't much of a game underneath it. It feels more like an exploration of an Among Us map than a proper port of Among Us itself. It's still a technical achievement, especially with working collision and sound effects, but also a very empty experience. boring

Be careful, there's one Impostor among us. In any case, your tasks are a little simpler: get this suspicious Crewmate onto your 3DS and see how far the port goes. First things first, make sure your system is running homebrew, because we all need the right tools for our jobs. Once that's checked from your tasks list, open FBI from your HOME Menu, point the camera at the QR code below and let the data transfer. Once it finishes, a Crewmate will appear right on your HOME Menu, ready to join the rest of your crew.
