Fire Emblem Warriors

Fire Emblem Warriors throws you into a crossover story where heroes from Fire Emblem Awakening, Fates, and Shadow Dragon team up to fight off hordes of enemies. You’ve got fan favorite characters like Chrom, Corrin, and Marth swinging swords, casting spells, and leading armies in massive battles. The game also incorporates some Fire Emblem staples, like the weapon triangle and support conversations, to keep things fresh for fans of the series.

This version is a fun, if not super deep, romp for fans of either franchise. The gameplay is classic Warriors, you’re basically mashing buttons to wipe out hundreds of enemies at once, which is as satisfying as it sounds. The Fire Emblem twist, like the weapon triangle (swords beat axes, axes beat lances, lances beat swords), adds a bit of strategy, but let’s be real, it’s not gonna make you feel like a tactical genius. Still, it’s a nice touch.

The roster is decent, but it’s kinda heavy on Awakening and Fates characters, which might bum out fans of older games. Like, where’s my boy Ike? Or Roy? C’mon, guys. Fuckmelife That said, the characters they did include are fun to play, and the support conversations add some personality and fan service, even if the story itself is pretty generic “save the world” stuff.

Performance-wise, the New 3DS version holds up okay, but it’s clearly not the best way to play. The graphics are a bit muddy, and the frame rate can chug when the screen gets too crowded. And here’s the thing, the New 3DS is capable of way more. It’s not unplayable by any means, but it feels like it could’ve been optimized a little better. If you’ve got a Switch, that’s definitely the better option. But if the New 3DS is all you’ve got, it’s still a solid portable hack-and-slash experience.

Oh, and one more thing, this game is a chonker. With all the DLCs and updates, it clocks in at around 4 gigs, making it the heaviest 3DS game out there, probably due to all the fanservice.
