C.O.P. The Recruit

C.O.P. The Recruit is part of the DRIVER series but often flying under the radar. You play as Dan Miles, a rookie cop in New York who gets recruited into an elite crime fighting unit after being framed for murder. The story’s your typical undercover cop drama: corrupt officials, shady gangs, and a personal vendetta, but it’s got that DRIVER flair with car chases and open world chaos. The game mixes driving, shooting and even some detective work.

The driving? Solid. This is a DRIVER game after all and the handling feels arcadey but fun with tight drifts and decent speed. The shooting? Eh, it’s serviceable. You get a lock on system, but the controls are clunky with the DS’s limitations. The open world is impressive for the hardware tho, NYC is scaled down but packed with side missions, like chasing perps or defusing bombs. There’s even some light detective stuff, like scanning crime scenes but it’s pretty basic. It's actually more detailed and graphically impressive than Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, but GTA still runs circles around it in terms of pure fun, thanks to its sharper writing, deeper mechanics and way better chaos potential. Still, for a DS game, it’s ambitious as hell.

The plot’s entertaining, Dan’s a generic tough guy protagonist, but the voice acting adds charm. The missions are varied, from high speed pursuits to on foot shootouts. The graphics are good for the DS, with detailed car models and a surprisingly lively city, tho popin and low res textures are obvious drawbacks. Boring

The soundtrack’s a mix of generic rock and synth beats that fit the cop drama vibe. The city feels alive with pedestrians and traffic, tho the AI can be dumb as bricks: enemies sometimes just stand there and civilians have zero self preservation. CloakNDaggerFacePalm
