Piropa
Piropa is a virtual pet game for the Game Boy, and that fact only already gives it immediate charm.
You're basically raising a lil froggy starting from a tadpole and your job is to keep it happy by feeding it bugs, growing flowers, cleaning up after it and just generally being a good frog parent. It's simple and that's the whole point, no stress, no complicated mechanics, just you and your pixelated pal vibing. ![]()

The gameplay loop is pretty straightforward. You've got a few meters to manage: hunger, cleanliness and overall happiness; to keep those in check, you'll spend time in different minigames or activities. Catching bugs is a tiny reflex test where you gotta tap at the right moment, growing flowers is more about patience and timing and cleaning is just a quick button press to wipe away the mess. None of it is hard but it's satisfying in that way that makes digital pet games addictive.
As your frog grows, it evolves into one of six possible adult forms, which adds a bit of mystery and replayability since you never know exactly which one you'll get.
Visually, it nails that Game Boy aesthetic hard.
The sprites are super adorable with expressive little faces that somehow convey whether your frog is sad, hungry or just chilling and the color palette is limited but used really well, giving everything a crisp and nostalgic feel.
The music and sound effects done by Beatscribe are a highlight, they're chiptune tunes that are catchy without being annoying.
If I had to nitpick, it's not a game with a ton of depth but as I said, that's not the point here. Piropa is meant to be a chill companion, and it's the kind of game that feels personal, like you actually have a tiny responsibility. Some people in its page even mentioned getting emotionally attached, which honestly makes sense when you see your little frog grow from a speck of a tadpole into an adult frog.

Also, ZeliotL, who did this inject, even packed in an e-Manual! Which is such a neat little extra that makes the whole thing feel legit!
Now, if you wanna get this frog buddy living on your 3DS, your console's gotta be homebrewed first, just the usual CFW setup. Once that's sorted, just fire up FBI from your HOME Menu, aim its scanner at the QR code down below and let it do its thing. After it finishes installing, a little Piropa icon will pop up right alongside your other games. Tap it and that's it! You've got a virtual frog friend ready to raise with a whole manual built right in. Couldn't be simpler.
