YouTube

Remember when you could just open your 3DS and watch YouTube videos on it? Nintendo actually had an official app for that, allowing users to browse the platform and watch your favorite content creators in 3D, but it was eventually discontinued in 2019. But thankfully, the homebrew scene wasn't quite ready to let YouTube disappear from the 3DS. ThirdTube was the first major homebrew attempt to bring that experience back, offering a lightweight YouTube client that doesn't rely on the system browser or waste resources rendering an entire webpage. It supported video playback up to 360p, livestreams, premieres, search, video suggestions, comments and captions. You couls also keep a local watch history and subscribe to channels, making it feel much closer to an actual YouTube application than a simple video player, and yes, it even comes without ads! That's where FourthTube comes in! A fork of the original ThirdTube which introduces several improvements of its own, the most noticeable upgrade is support for video playback up to 480p on New 3DS systems, alongside improved compatibility and additional playback controls, including 5 second seeking with the ZL and ZR buttons. It also introduces configurable app data options, allowing you to change the client identity used when requesting videos from YouTube which can help when playback stops working. PandaHammer It also has received further fixes, interface improvements and additional language support too. It's still a WIP, and YouTube's frequent backend changes can occasionally cause playback problems but FourthTube is currently the more practical choice if you want to keep watching videos on your little handheld.
