Another Code: Two Memories

Another Code: Two Memories follows Ashley Mizuki Robbins, a 13 years old girl who receives a mysterious device called the DAS (Dual Another System) on her birthday. This gadget allows her to «communicate» with the memories of objects, which comes in handy when she’s summoned to Blood Edward Island to meet her supposedly dead father. Yeah, plot twist already. Along the way, she teams up with a ghost named D, who’s got his own mysteries to unravel. The game is a mix of puzzle-solving, exploration, and a heartfelt narrative that digs into themes of family, loss, and identity.

Let’s keep it real, this game is a vibe. It’s not your typical action-packed DS game; it’s more like a chill, story-driven experience with a side of brain-teasing puzzles. The game makes clever use of the DS hardware, like using the touchscreen to solve puzzles or blowing into the mic to clear dust off objects. The DAS mechanic is a neat gimmick, though it’s not super deep, mostly just a way to unlock bits of lore and progress the story.

The story itself is the star of the show. Ashley’s journey is emotional and relatable, especially if you’re into stories about family secrets and self-discovery. The pacing can feel a bit slow at times, but it’s worth sticking around for the payoff. D, the ghost dude, is a solid sidekick, and his backstory ties nicely into the overall mystery of Blood Edward Island. The game’s got this melancholic, almost dreamlike atmosphere that sticks with you.

However, the puzzles range from satisfyingly clever to downright frustrating, and some of the dialogue can feel a bit clunky. Plus, it’s kinda short, you can breeze through it in like 6-8 hours if you’re not stuck on a puzzle for too long. But hey, sometimes less is more, right? If you’re into games like Hotel Dusk or the Ace Attorney series, this one’s worth checking out. Just don’t go in expecting a thrill ride, it’s more like a cozy mystery novel you can play.
