Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and More!
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town is the remake of Harvest Moon: Back to Nature but polished to perfection, and even today, it’s still one of the most beloved entries in the series. The premise is simple, you inherit a run-down farm in Mineral Town, and it’s up to you to turn it into a thriving agricultural paradise while making friends (or even finding love) with the locals. Sounds similar, don't ya think Stardew Valley fans?

What makes this game so special is its charm. The pixel art is adorable, the music is cozy as hell, and the gameplay loop is addicting in the best way. You plant crops, raise animals, mine for ores, fish, and participate in festivals, all while managing your stamina so you don’t pass out face-first in your tomato patch. The townsfolk are full of personality, from the tsundere Karen to the sweet, shy Mary, and building relationships with them actually feels rewarding. The writing is simple but effective, making you care about these little pixel people.
However, you may struggle in early game, when you’re broke and your tools suck. Mining gets repetitive, and the bachelorette events can be tricky to trigger if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s a game that rewards patience, and there’s something meditative about the grind.
So, More Friends of Mineral Town is basically its twin sister, same game, but now you can play as a female protagonist. The core gameplay is identical: same farm, same town, same festivals, but with a new set of bachelors to woo, like the broody doctor Kai or the dorky but lovable Cliff.

The bachelors here are a fun bunch, though some feel a little underdeveloped compared to the bachelorettes in the original. Still, it’s cool getting to experience Mineral Town from a different perspective, and the game doesn’t skimp on content, you still get all the farming, mining, and fishing goodness. The biggest downside? It’s so similar to its counterpart that if you’ve already played one, the other might feel like a glorified gender-swap mod. But if you’re a completionist or just really wanted to date the guys, it’s worth checking out.
At the end of the day, both are classics for a reason. They’re cozy, wholesome, and packed with enough content to keep you hooked for months. The 2020 remake, STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of Mineral Town, modernized the graphics and added some QoL improvements, but there’s something magical about the pixelated OG versions. If you’re into farming sims and haven’t played these yet, what are you even doing? Go water some turnips and fall in love with pixels, you won’t regret it.
