METAL SLUG 7 sticks to its roots, over-the-top action, ridiculous explosions, and that signature cartoonish charm. The plot? Classic METAL SLUG nonsense: the evil General Morden is back (again) with another rogue army, and it’s up to the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force (you and a buddy, if you’re playing co-op) to blast through waves of soldiers, aliens, and giant mechs. The game throws you into six missions packed with chaos, from jungle warfare to zombie outbreaks, because why not?

If you’ve played any METAL SLUG before, you know exactly what you’re getting: tight controls, pixel-perfect animations, and enough bullets on-screen to make a ‘90s arcade kid weep. The gameplay is pure, unfiltered chaos. You run, you gun, you dodge, and you die, a lot. The difficulty is brutal but fair, sticking to the series’ tradition of punishing carelessness while rewarding memorization and skill.
The visuals are peak METAL SLUG bright, detailed, and packed with personality. Every explosion, every enemy death, and every silly animation (like turning into a zombie or a fat version of yourself) is a joy to watch. The soundtrack slaps too, with those high-energy military beats that keep the adrenaline pumping.
That said, it’s more of the same, which isn’t necessarily bad, but if you were hoping for fresh mechanics or a deeper campaign, you won’t find them here. The new Slug Select system (letting you pick different vehicles before missions) is neat but doesn’t change much. Anyway, this game is fast, frantic, and full of that classic charm. It doesn’t push boundaries, but it doesn’t need to. If you just want to blow stuff up with a friend (or solo) in that signature METAL SLUG style, this delivers.
