METAL SLUG ANTHOLOGY
The METAL SLUG ANTHOLOGY follows the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force, a group of badasses (Marco, Tarma, Eri, and Fio) blowing up everything in their path to stop General Morden and his rebel army. By METAL SLUG 3, things get wild, aliens invade, zombies show up, and by 5, there’s a weird cybernetic cult. The story is basically an excuse for non-stop shooting, but it’s packed with so much personality that you can’t help but love it.
If you’ve played one METAL SLUG, you know the drill: run, jump, shoot, and try not to die. The controls are tight, the weapons are absurd (flame shots, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers), and the iconic METAL SLUG tanks are your best friends.
The pixel art is where it flexes. Every sprite is hand-drawn with insane detail: explosions, goofy enemy deaths, and even the way characters celebrate with a "ROCKET LAWNCHAIR" sign. Plus, these games are brutal. One hit kills you (unless you grab armor), enemies spawn like crazy, and bosses demand pattern memorization. the first entry is raw and punishing, 2 slows down due to bad optimization (fixed in X), and 3 is the hardest but fairest. 4 and 5 ease up slightly, but they’ll still wreck you.
The soundtrack slaps. From the adrenaline-pumping main theme to the eerie alien tracks, the music keeps the hype going. Sound effects are crunchy and satisfying, every bullet, explosion, and "MISSION START" yell feels iconic.
If you’re new, start with 3, it’s the pinnacle. But the whole series is worth playing for its unmatched arcade energy. Just bring quarters (or save states, no judgment).
