Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a beefed-up package that throws in almost every character, stage, and fatality from the first three games, plus some extra goodies to keep things fresh. You’ve got your classic roster like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Liu Kang, but then they toss in a bunch of unlockables like bosses and secret fighters, even Goro and Kintaro are playable, which is pretty sick.

Gameplay-wise, it’s pure old-school Mortal Kombat. The combo system is simple but satisfying, and the addition of running and Brutalities (which were new at the time) adds some spice. That said, the hit detection can be janky, and the AI loves to cheese you (especially on higher difficulties). It’s the kind of game where you’ll scream at the screen one minute and pop off the next when you finally take down Shao Kahn.
The stages are packed with little details and Easter eggs, though, and the iconic blood and gore are front and center. The soundtrack slaps, those moody, synth-heavy tracks fit the dark vibe perfectly, and the bone crunching sound effects never get old.
Where the game stumbles a bit is in balance. Some characters are straight-up broken, and the boss fights can feel cheap rather than challenging. The lack of a proper story mode hurts too, it’s just arcade ladder after arcade ladder, which gets repetitive.
