RESIDENT EVIL 2

Resident Evil 2 throws you into the shoes of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they navigate Raccoon City during a zombie outbreak. The atmosphere is thick with tension: dimly lit corridors, creepy ambient sounds, and those classic fixed camera angles that make every corner feel like a potential death trap. The limited ammo and save system (thanks, ink ribbons) force you to think carefully about every move, making even basic encounters stressful in the best way possible.

The story is classic B-movie horror stuff but it works. Umbrella’s shady experiments, betrayals, and villains like Mr. X (who’s even scarier in the original than his remake version) keep things engaging. The game’s split scenarios give it solid replay value, with each character offering slightly different weapons, story beats, and even enemy placements.

Gameplay is tank controls at its finest, clunky, but once you get used to it, the deliberate movement adds to the fear. Zombies are slow but deadly in groups, and the puzzles are just the right mix of challenging and satisfying. The soundtrack's fire, haunting melodies ramp up the dread while action tracks get your heart pumping during boss fights.

Visually, it pushed the PS1 to its limits with detailed prerendered backgrounds and gruesome FMV cutscenes. Yeah, the character models are blocky, but that just adds to the retro appeal. The sound design is killer too: zombie moans, distant footsteps, and the unmistakable click of a Licker crawling on the ceiling still send chills down your spine.

Is it perfect? Nah. The inventory system is frustratingly small, and some puzzles can feel obtuse without a guide, but these flaws hardly matter when the game nails its core experience so well.

The Sorry about that, babe Edition tweaks the game to feel smoother and more action friendly while keeping its core intact. The biggest change is faster character rotation, making dodging and maneuvering, like circle strafing Lickers way less of a pain. Knife runs get a major upgrade too, with quicker slashes and zombies taking way more damage from blades, so you’re not stuck poking them forever. Movement’s also less punishing, no more limping in Danger state and walking backward is always at full speed. Reloading gets a tactical overhaul with optional enemy freezing during animations (toggle it with R + X), and you can even swap your unique item for a knife on the fly (sorry, Sherry, no knives for you kiisu_sword). Best of all? No more hunting for ink ribbons, save whenever! KirbyYay

There are some quirks tho, the patch removes wall-stabbing animations which can mess with camera transitions if you’re spamming attacks, and the attract demo with Claire can softlock if she grabs an ink ribbon (blame the adjusted turning speed). Also, the extra inventory slots from sidepacks might not trigger if you’ve already progressed too far, but overall, this mod is perfect for players who love RESIDENT EVIL 2 but want a snappier, less clunky experience. It doesn’t break the game’s balance, just polishes the rough edges in clever ways.
