Bakugan: Battle Brawlers
Bakugan: Battle Brawlers was the way to live out your brawling fantasies back in the day. It’s got the core Bakugan experience: rolling little metal balls onto cards, yelling «Bakugan Brawl!» in your head, and watching digital monsters duke it out. But how does it hold up? Let’s dig in.

The game throws you into the Bakugan world as a newbie, with Dan Kuso himself teaching you the ropes. You quickly get your own Guardian Bakugan, Leonidas, who’s basically the cool, mysterious guy of the group since he’s from the Doom Dimension. The main villain Marduk and his Darkus Bakugan Vladitor are your big threats and the story follows the usual «beat the bad guys, save the day» arc. It's simple but works for fans of the show. The DS version doesn't have the anime’s voice acting or flashy cutscenes like the console versions, so it's more about the gameplay.
The meat of the game is the battles, and they're a mix of strategy and quick reflexes. You roll your Bakugan onto Gate Cards and depending on the card's color (gold, silver or copper), you’ll play a minigame to boost your G-Power. Gold is a shooting game, silver's about timing and copper's a button masher. It's fun at first, but the minigames get repetitive fast, especially since the touch controls aren't as smooth as they could be.
Deck building matters. You’ve got Ability Cards and Gate Cards to customize your strategy, and some combos can seriously turn the tide. The handheld version lacks some of the console's visual flair obviously, but the core mechanics are intact and the visuals are decent at least.
This game loves making you work for the good stuff. Want Delta Dragonoid or Blade Tigrerra? Be ready to grind battles on hard mode. There's also a ton of hidden Bakugan, like the Top Brawler ones which require tag team wins. The DS version has some exclusive unlock methods, like avoiding certain attributes in Battle Royales, which adds a fun challenge.
