Devil of the Mirror

Devil of the Mirror is about this lonely sick girl that's super tired of her life and does this spell on a mirror to wish for friends and a better future. Big mistake tho. SmugBob3 'Cause the mirror has a demon trapped inside it. The whole story is basically about whether this whole thing is gonna be the answer to her prayers or a total nightmare. SmugBob3

The general vibe is that it's a simple but kinda heartfelt story. Nothing super deep or anything, reviews say it just spells everything out for you instead of being subtle, but the reveals are still pretty good for what it is. The whole package is short and sweet, like you can finish it in maybe two or three hours, which is perfect if you just want a quick game to get through. SmugBob3

The art style is a major highlight. Everyone pretty much agrees on that. SmugBob3 The character designs are really adorable, which gives it this cutesy feel similar to Touhou, but then it contrasts that with this really dark, gloomy and gothic atmosphere, especially in the mirror world. The backgrounds are intricately pretty and the cutscenes are said to look great, bummer that 3DS can't play them. SmugBob3

As for the gameplay, it's classic RPG Maker horror. The puzzles are really straightforward and basic, the music is simple but fits the mood of the game perfectly. There are also a few chase sequences. Some people thought the puzzles were almost too easy and made the game feel a bit weightless, especially compared to the dev's other game, Burial, which has tougher puzzles that feel more meaningful. But on the flip side, it doesn't try to be more than it is, like, it's simple and knows it, which works in its favor. There are multiple endings to find, including some game over screens, which adds a little replayability. SmugBob3
