Core Machina
Picture this: you’re sipping your morning coffee when a thief slips into your life and steals… wait for it… your family’s prized heirloom! Well… welcome to Core Machina.
Our story kicks off with our spirited protagonist, Jupiter, who’s quite literally minding her own business in her father’s shop when a thief, sporting what can only be described as sneaky chic, decides to make off with a prized stainless gear shaft. This isn’t just any old tool; it's a family heirloom, and Jupiter’s not going to let it slip through her fingers.
After a brief encounter where she realizes the thief isn’t just a random bandit but someone she recognizes, things take a wild turn when the thief gets kidnapped! Now, Jupiter embarks on a quest through the intricately crafted city, determined to recover both her father’s beloved shaft and rescue the girl who keeps finding herself in sticky situations.
Talking about graphics, they're nothing short of a visual love letter to the GameBoy. The color palette make even the most mundane trash can look like a work of art, seriously! The simplicity of its graphics is breathtaking; it proves you don’t need high-end tech to craft a visually stunning experience.
Now, about gameplay, while the gun platformer section is rather challenging, requiring quick reflexes to navigate, players might find exploration dragging at times. The city is full of interesting locales, but the pacing can feel off. However, the dialogues are a highlight, brimming with humor reminiscent of UNDERTALE (kinda) which add a layer of charm to the story. Characters throw one-line banters, keeping the mood light even when the game is always serious.
As for the crafting mechanics, while promising, feels kinda underwhelming in this demo version, which limits its potential impact. Still, it’s clear there’s a solid foundation here, hinting at greater possibilities if the game were to expand by Pearacidic and Binary Sonata Studios.
