METROID RESURGENCE
You’re Samus Aran, a badass bounty hunter in a power suit, sent to planet Zebes to stop the Space Pirates from weaponizing Metroids (those jellyfish-looking leech monsters ). Oh, and you gotta take down Mother Brain, the big bad AI running the show. The game’s nonlinear, so you’re exploring caves, collecting power-ups, and backtracking like crazy.
METROID RESURGENCE
METROID
Look, the NES original is rough by today’s standards. No map, repetitive environments, and cryptic as hell. The nonlinear exploration and female protagonist were way ahead of their time. It’s a classic, but unless you’re a hardcore retro gamer, you might wanna skip to the remake Zero Mission.

I also added mOTHER, a mega-collab of three individual mods: Metroid + Saving, MDbtroid, and ‘Roidz. It’s like the NES Metroid got a full spa treatment. You’ve got save files (thank God ), beam stacking, better sprites, animated environments, and even a minimap. Ridley’s room got tweaked to reduce flicker, and the whole game just looks and plays smoother.
The save feature alone is a game-changer, no more password nonsense. The updated sprites and animations make Zebes feel alive, and the minimap saves you from getting lost in those repetitive corridors. It’s still the same classic game, but now it’s actually fun to play.

METROID II: RETURN OF SAMUS
Samus heads to SR388 to exterminate the Metroids (yep, genocide time! ). The game’s all about hunting down and killing every last Metroid, which evolve into bigger, nastier forms as you go. The atmosphere is super eerie, and the final encounter is iconic.

This one’s a mixed bag. The Game Boy’s limitations make it visually monotonous, and the lack of a map is still a pain. But the sense of isolation and the creepy vibe are top-notch. It’s a slower, more methodical game, but it’s a key piece of Metroid lore.
Plus, the DX patch fixes mismatched tiles, tweaks sprites, and even ensures it runs on real hardware. The colors breathe new life into the monochrome world of SR388, and the glitches are minimal. The moody palette makes the game feel more immersive, and the visual upgrades help distinguish areas that used to blend together. It’s still a slow, methodical game, but now it’s way easier on the eyes.

And Super Metroid Redux is the ultimate love letter to the GOAT. It combines features from GBA Style and Project Base, adding faster door transitions and instant bomb explosions. The map system is revamped to match Zero Mission and Fusion, and there are tons of quality-of-life tweaks like recharge stations and shorter fanfares for minor pickups.
The faster pacing and modernized mechanics make it feel like a modern Metroidvania. The map improvements are a godsend, and the optional hard mode adds replayability. It’s still the same iconic game, but now it’s streamlined for today’s players. If you thought Super Metroid couldn’t get any better, this hack will prove you wrong.

METROID FUSION
Samus is infected by an X Parasite and barely survives. Now she’s on a space station crawling with X mimics and SA-X, a terrifying doppelgänger based on her old power suit. The game’s more linear than Super Metroid, but it’s packed with tension and story.

Fusion is divisive. Some fans hate the linearity, but I think it works. The SA-X is legit scary, and the story adds depth to Samus’ character. The atmosphere is claustrophobic, and the pacing keeps you on edge. It’s not as open as Super Metroid, but it’s a solid entry with a unique vibe.
Special Edition uses Sequence Breaking Fusion as a base and adds a ton of visual and gameplay tweaks. The colors are less saturated, the HUD and map are cleaner, and there are new sequence breaks (like early Power Bombs). Bomb-jumping and single-wall wall-jumping are back, and door transitions are faster. There’s even an optional hard mode for masochists. The restored sequence breaks make it feel more like a traditional Metroid game, and the faster pacing keeps the action flowing. It’s the definitive way to play Fusion.

METROID: ZERO MISSION
This is a remake of the NES original, but with way more polish. It retells Samus’ first mission on Zebes, adding new areas, power-ups, and even a stealth section where Samus loses her suit. It’s the definitive version of the original story.

Zero Mission is what the NES game wanted to be. It’s accessible, visually stunning, and packed with secrets. The addition of the stealth section is a bold move, and it works surprisingly well. This is the perfect entry point for new players, and it’s still a blast for veterans. It’s short but sweet.
The palette enhancement hack tweaks the colors to make Zero Mission look even better. It’s not a massive overhaul, but it sharpens the visuals and gives the game a more polished look. It’s a subtle change, but it adds to the overall polish of an already stellar remake.
