YOSHI'S ISLAND DS
YOSHI'S ISLAND DS is the sequel to the beloved Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, and it tries to recapture that same magic, but no, this ain't Super Mario World 3. This time, the stork is back on baby-delivery duty, but instead of just Baby Mario, he’s got a whole squad of infants: Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong, Wario, and even Bowser. Of course, Kamek’s goons mess things up, scattering the babies across the island, and it’s up to Yoshi and his many colorful pals to reunite them. The gameplay sticks to the same formula: floaty jumps, egg-throwing chaos, and transforming into vehicles, but now, each baby gives Yoshi a unique ability. Mario’s basic, Peach lets you float, DK gives you strength, Wario has a magnet for coins, and Bowser… well, he breathes fire. It's a fun twist!

Honestly, Yoshi’s Island DS is a solid game, but it’s not quite the masterpiece the SNES original was. The core gameplay is still cool: the controls are tight, the levels are creative, and the art style is charmingly hand-drawn as the first game, still has that playful Yoshi vibe. But the baby-swapping mechanic, while cool in theory, can feel gimmicky. Some levels force you to switch babies constantly, which kills the flow, and not all abilities feel equally useful, specially Wario.
The level design is hit or miss, too. Some stages are genius, full of clever secrets and fun platforming challenges, while others feel frustratingly cramped. However, it’s not a bad game by any means, it’s still way better than most platformers, since the baby abilities add variety. If you’re a fan of Yoshi's games or cartoonish pixel art, this one’s worth checking out.
